On Monday night, authorities say that protestors from the police and Black Lives Matter clashed outside City Hall Park in New York, resulting in hundreds of arrests and many wounded officers.

The altercation started at about 8:30 p.m. According to social media reports, hundreds of supporters who originally gathered outside the Barclays Center marched across the Brooklyn Bridge in a demonstration honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Videos show that they were confronted with a strong police presence as they made their way into Manhattan, and chaos ensued.

Ten police officers were wounded in the brawl, sources said, and a lieutenant was hit with a bottle on his helmet.

One protester was arrested after he swung a stick at an officer, police sources said.

In Videos posted to Twitter, Police can be seen running towards and moving several protesters out of the way while wrestling another person on the street to the ground.

In the video, you can also hear Officers telling the demonstrators to back up on the sidewalk.

“F–k you,” some in the crowd can be heard yelling at the police. “You f—ing animals,” other people say, according to the video.

According to sources, at least 29 arrests were made near Chambers and Centre streets, with many accused of blocking traffic.
