During the Jan. 6 riot, a man suspected of beating and hitting Capitol Police officers with a baseball bat has turned himself into DC Police.
Federal prosecutors filed charges of attacking an officer with a lethal weapon, obstruction of official proceedings, illegal entry, and violent entry into the U.S. District Court against Emanuel Jackson for the District of Columbia.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, a surveillance video at the Capitol showed Jackson wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan military-style backpack, and blue surgical mask while repeatedly punching a Capitol Police officer with his fist while trying to forcibly enter the building through the entrance to the Senate Wing.
Approximately three hours later, surveillance footage reportedly captured Jackson using a metal baseball bat to attack a group of officers from the Capitol and DC Police.
Through a video posted to social media, investigators said they could further corroborate Jackson’s actions during the riot.
Jackson entered the 1st District Metropolitan Police Department station on Monday and allegedly admitted to participating in the violent protests and identified himself in the video and photos.
DC’s Central Cell Block said Tuesday evening that Jackson had been ordered to be held in the DC jail by a federal judge and would likely be transferred that night.
More than 80 individuals have now been federally charged in connection with last week’s events at the Capitol. These include a county commissioner from New Mexico, at least two retired firefighters, and a self-professed white supremacist who declared his desire to be a “lone wolf killer.”
