Rapper “Baby CEO” Protégé of Fredo Santana Dies at 20

According to sources at the juvenile court in Memphis, Tennessee, On Wednesday morning, Twitter was lit up with memorial posts for the rapper who was born Jonathon Brown.

The passing of Baby CEO comes just three years after the death of Chicago hip-hop icon Fredo Santana of Savage Records fame. Local media outlets have sometimes portrayed Baby CEO as the “protégé” of Santana before the 27-year-old suffered a fatal seizure in 2018.

One Twitter user wrote early Wednesday in tribute, “RIP Baby CEO, Fredo would be proud.”

At 14, Baby CEO first made headlines when what was described as a “disturbing video” began making social media rounds. The young boy was featured citing explicit lyrics, pointing guns and rapping about drugs, throwing up gang signs, and his visions of fame.

J.R. Futrell, a youth mentor at Young Men University in Memphis, told NBC that he was not shocked by the video.

“It’s a product of reap and sow, and we’ve sown things into our children’s lives,” Futrell said. “They live in a world that they did not choose, and here we are with the results.”

Local NBC outlets confirmed that in 2015, Baby CEO was arrested for a probation violation. Since that time, he has stayed out of the headlines, but he has recently started a family, according to social media articles.
