Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday that multiple agencies are investigating the cause of death of an individual who passed away hours after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to CBS13, in a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office was vague about the individual’s personal details but said that the person tested positive for the virus in late December and received the vaccine last week.
“The individual was administered a COVID-19 vaccine several hours before their death on January 21, 2021,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “The vaccine was not administered by Placer County Public Health.”
CBS13 spoke with Dr. Dean Blumberg, an infectious disease expert from UC Davis, and asked him some general questions about the safety measures involved with the COVID-19 vaccine.
“All the health care professionals are making sure to report any concerning adverse events following immunization, even if it’s not related – just to pick up any kind of signal,” Dr. Blumberg explained.
Dr. Blumberg also stated that the COVID-19 vaccine is not a shot in the dark. The doctor said data shows there have no been increased deaths due to vaccines, and thousands of those studied were looked at before each vaccine’s approval. Dr. Blumberg did also say that anything can happen after a vaccine, and it’s still too early to tell what the cause of death could be.
