A Texas man is dead after being fatally shot after confronting the parents of his daughter’s cyberbully.

News Station KTRK reports that 35-year-old Brandon Curtis had hoped to end harassment messages his 15-year-old daughter had been getting from a boy. He had allegedly been harassing her for nine months.

His wife, Shantal Harris, told the news station, “When he left from here, my husband went to go resolve the issue. He wanted to go speak to the parent.”

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time Curtis had gone to speak to the boy’s father. On Friday, he had gone to the boy’s home with his daughter and son to address the issue.

KTRK reports that the dispute escalated to violence while Curtis was outside the residence.

According to the cyberbully’s 20-year-old sibling, Curtis had hit his younger brother first. He told the police that he had taken out a gun and shot Curtis to protect his teenage brother. Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Curtis’s family strongly denies that he got physical with the younger boy.

His sister, Jeran Perkins, told the news station, “My brother would never put a hand on a child.” She said, “We want justice.”

Curtis’s wife also denied that her husband would have become violent: “I know my husband. My husband is not like that.” She said, “For them to claim self-defense, it’s sickening.”

The shooter has not been charged.
