The family of the Publix empire, or at least the daughter, is the most recent person associated with the creation of the Jan. 6 rally that ultimately led to the Capitol insurrection.
According to Miami New Times, Julie Jenkins Fancelli, whose father founded Publix, reached out to a conservative, well-known Trump supporter, Alex Jones inquiring about “a pro-Trump event in D.C. on January 6.”
Fancelli offered to help bankroll the event. Contributing ~$300,000 of the total $500,000 cost of the rally (60%).
This is not the first time Julie or even the rest of her family put up large sums of money supporting Trump. The family has donated hundreds of thousands to Trump.
Julie specifically donated more than $980,000 to the Republican Party and Trump for his 2020 re-election bid, according to campaign-finance records.
A spokesperson for the grocery chain was unable to comment on Julie’s actions, as she is not directly involved in day-to-day operations.
“Mrs. Fancelli is not an employee of Publix Super Markets and is neither involved in our business operations nor does she represent the company in any way,” Publix said in a statement posted by Politico reporter Marc Caputo. “We cannot comment on Mrs. Fancelli’s actions.”
