Toys “R” Us will close its last two remaining stores, roughly a year after announcing a highly anticipated relaunch of the toy store brand.
According to CNN Business, Tru Kids Inc., the company that bought the retailer in a liquidation sale in 2018, has confirmed that its final two locations in New Jersey and Texas that opened in the fall of 2019 will permanently close operations because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As a result of Covid-19, we made the strategic decision to pivot our store strategy to new locations and platforms that have better traffic,” a spokesperson for Tru Kids told CNN Business. The company did add that demand for the brand “remains strong,” and the company plans on continuing to invest in it.
Toys “R” Us’ website will remain operational, and the company will continue to run more than 700 stores outside of the United States.
