Authorities say that a maskless man was denied service at a Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Pasadena, California, and returned with a gun to demand all the chicken and waffles they could give him before running off.
Police and restaurant officials say the suspect entered the restaurant at around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, ready to order when he was turned away because he wasn’t wearing a mask and was told he could return once he put one on.
At first, the restaurant staff was confused about why the suspect showed up at the back of the restaurant with a gun when all the cash registers were in front.
Cook Robert Gonzalez was in the kitchen when the suspect walked in; he said, “He comes straight toward me with a gun, pointing at me and saying put all the chicken in the bag.”
The restaurant’s manager, Angela Prieto, said, “He didn’t take any cash, he actually took the chicken, and before he walked out the door, he took syrup for his chicken.”
It was a tense and shocking moment for the staff.
“They were feeling scared, especially my cashier,” Prieto said. “She was very, very scared. And when I first talked to her, she was basically hysterical, but after a while, she calmed down and started laughing about it because she realized all he did was take some chicken.”
However, surveillance video did capture the man’s face since he wasn’t wearing a mask.
“I almost got shot over stupidity, I guess,” Gonzalez said.
No one was injured, but police are still looking for the suspect.
