A 30 year old St. Louis mother and her two young daughters were fatally shot, and police have arrested her former boyfriend, according to the New York Post.
The New York Post reports that the man, Ronald, 34, fled on a Greyhound bus and was taken into custody in Effingham, Illinois, about 100 miles away, hours after the shooting. The girls were 7 years old and 1 year old.
Officers were called to the family’s home, where Police Chief John Hayden said investigators found a disturbing scene that was traumatic for the responding officers.
Authorities had not yet released the victims’ names, but relatives told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the mother was Kanisha and that Ronald was her former boyfriend. A witness reportedly heard gunshots and saw a man running from the scene, and later identified him in a photo lineup. Authorities say he got rid of his cellphone and bought a new one before boarding the bus.
Police have not said what the motive was. A family member told the Post-Dispatch that Kanisha had ongoing problems with him. He remains in custody until he is extradited to St. Louis, and no public statement from him was included in the reports at the time of this story.
