On Tuesday, a Louisiana woman was arrested for her connection in the death of Quawan “Bobby” Charles.
Janet Irvin, 37, was arrested on the charges of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and failing to report a missing child, according to local news outlet KATC 3.
Charles was initially reported missing on October 30 of last year in Baldwin, located in the St. Mary Parish. On November 3, his mother reported him missing to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. His body was discovered later that day in a drainage ditch in a sugar cane field.
An autopsy showed Charles’s cause of death to be drowning, and he had marijuana and alcohol in his system.
“IPSO Bureau of Investigations conducted extensive interviews with numerous individuals, collected forensic evidence, and along with the completed autopsy report determined that Irvin be arrested,” reads a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Charles’ family had maintained that he was left with Irvin when he went missing. From the beginning, they believed the teen was murdered and were upset that Irvin had not yet been arrested.
Irvin is currently behind bars in the Iberia Parish jail. Bond has not yet been set.
