Tips On How To Keep The Relationship Spicy When You’ve Been Together For Years

If you and your significant other have been together for years, the “honeymoon” spark has likely sizzled between y’all. It’s very easy to get content, comfortable, and in a routine when you’ve been together for a long time. But that doesn’t mean you should settle for it because we all need some excitement in life, especially when it comes to love.

If this sounds like you and yours, try some of these suggested tips to get things back poppin!

  1. Be spontaneous. One thing about life–it can get very routine. The thrill of doing new things is a sure way to add some spark into your life. Plan a day doing something you two have never done or haven’t done in a while. Go to a local park for a picnic, explore an art museum, or whatever you or your spouse is into.

2. Flirt. You have to remind your spouse that they are the one. Those old techniques you used to win them over, bring them back out. Smile, laugh, joke, touch… Nothing is worse than going about the relationship as if they aren’t worthy of romance.

3. Go on a Date. Plan a date night in town or out of town. A real date that requires y’all to get dressed and put in the effort. It is important to have one-on-one time. Things can get really complicated with work and kids, so it is important to spend time together.

4. Show appreciation. Although you think you do it a lot, appreciation is very easy to overlook. Remind your spouse that you appreciate their love, hard work, and support. If they work hard every day, fix or order dinner, so it’s one less thing they have to worry about when they get home. If his favorite game is coming on, turn on the TV and bring him his favorite drink. Thoughtfulness shows that you are paying attention to the things they like and the things they need.

5. Have sex. Last but not least, having healthy and frequent sex is a way to keep things spicy. Not only does it help sustain passion between you two, but it also keeps the connection going. Even if you have to schedule “sex days” between work and kids, do so.
