An 11-year-old Texas boy apparently froze to death in his family’s mobile home after losing power during Texas’s recent winter storm.
His family has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the region’s utility companies.
Cristian Pavon Pineda was found lifeless in the bed next to his younger brother on Monday. The mobile home’s temperatures dropped into the single digits, and the family struggled to keep warm, the New York Post reported.
The family blames Texas power grid operator ERCOT and electricity provider Entergy. The companies failed to warn people about the dangerous weather conditions and failed to give their customers complete guidance during the historic arctic blast that slammed the state last week.
Pineda accuses the providers of gross negligence.
On the day of Cristian’s death, his mother, Maria Elisa Pineda, said he played in the snow for the first time.
