Facebook has announced its new TikTok-like platform, “BARS,” where users can freestyle over a selection of beats.
The app allows you to record videos capped at 60 seconds in length and shared across all social media platforms once made in the program.
Users may use the app to reward especially well-written lines with a fire emoji. The app does not yet have a pause button, and TechCrunch points out that it may be difficult to follow creators. But by the time the app goes live, all those kinks should be ironed out. The app’s developers are pushing the platform to users to perform without the need for equipment or a stage.
Facebook’s DJ Iyler said, “I know access to high-priced recording studios and production equipment can be limited for aspiring rappers. On top of that, the global pandemic shut down live performances where we often create and share our work.”
Auto-tune and a rhyming dictionary will be an included feature in the app. It will also include a competition in which aspiring rap stars can put their talents to the test in a freestyle game that automatically creates words to add as the rap progresses. The software is not yet available to the general public, although it will be shortly after its early adopters have extensively tested it.
