Last night it was announced that Civil Rights Activist and former Clinton advisor Vernon Jordan has passed away at 85.
His daughter, Vickee Jordan Adams, said in a statement this morning to CBS News that “My father passed away last night around 10 pm surrounded by loved ones his wife and daughter by his side.”
Jordan rose through theNational Urban League rankse after working as field secretary for the Georgia NAACP and executive director of the United Negro College Fund. He was the face of Black America’s contemporary fight for jobs and justice for more than a decade. Before turning to business and politics, he was almost killed by a racist person’s bullet in 1980.
