Mariah Carey is now facing a lawsuit from her brother over how he is described in her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Mariah’s older brother Morgan filed suit accusing her of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He claims the book unfairly paints him as a violent person, and he is reportedly seeking significant damages.
The suit takes issue with passages in which Mariah recalls a physical struggle between Morgan and their father, and an incident in which she says he pushed their mother into a wall. Morgan reportedly denies that these events happened the way she described them. He also says he doubts that a large number of police officers would have been sent to a domestic call, as the book suggests.
Morgan also reportedly says that people who knew the family saw his deep affection for his mother, and he points to a part of the book where Mariah recalls their mother saying he was the only one she loved.
This is the second lawsuit from within the family over the book. Mariah’s sister Alison previously sued, describing the memoir as containing cruel and outrageous allegations.
Mariah Carey has not responded publicly to Morgan’s lawsuit. These are allegations in a court filing, and none of them have been decided by a court.
