Florida A&M University has partnered with Nike for a six-year deal that will make Nike FAMU’s exclusive athletic gear provider.
The deal with NIKE, Inc. means that FAMU’s official athletic footwear, apparel, and equipment will come directly from the sporting company. As a bonus, the school’s and women’s basketball teams will sport LeBron James’ signature-branded gear, which includes colorways designed specifically for FAMU players’ uniforms, apparel, and shoes.
Nike will begin distributing the gear to Florida A&M Athletics on July 1st, 2021.
During a March 2nd home game, LeBron James wore his signature sneakers in the classic green and orange FAMU colorway.
“Nike has long supported Florida A&M Athletics, and I’m committed to lifting up HBCUs, so I was happy I rocked a pair of the PEs in-game and showcased a piece of what’s to come for the men’s and women’s basketball programs,” James said of the shoes.
As a part of the partnership, Nike will also offer internships and networking opportunities to students of the university and support the school’s student-athlete development programs.
These efforts will further strengthen the relationship between Nike and HBCUs. In 2020, Nike increased HBCU hires to 18 percent.
“Through our continued relationship with Florida A&M Athletics, we’ll have the opportunity to partner with some of the country’s preeminent student-athletes and the next generation of leaders,” says Nike’s VP of League Partnerships for North America, Sonja Henning.
