HBO has given the green light for a pilot of The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore and YouTube phenom Issa Rae’s show “Insecure”. The show will address the awkward experiences and tribulations of a modern-day African American, according to Variety.
Larry Wilmore was the “Senior Black Correspondent” for The Daily Show before he landed his current position at Comedy Central. And Rae is best known for her hit web-series, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. Issa Rae has over 180,000 YouTube subscribers and 20 million views for her show. Rae is also releasing the book The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl February 10th.
Larry Wilmore and Issa Rae have penned the pilot and are set to serve as producers. Both Rae and Wilmore are known for making light of the Black experience so “Insecure” should be comical treat.
