The demand for the iPhone 12 mini has decreased, according to a report from Nikkei Asia. Apple cut orders for the iPhone by 20%.

“This year is still not bad, but of course, demand for the first half of 2021 is not as high as people were thinking at the end of last year,” a source told Nikkei Asia.

The company plans to produce 230 million iPhones in 2021, according to Nikkei Asia. The report also mentions that consumers gravitate towards older iPhone models, the larger iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro. Smartphone analyst for GF Securities, Jeff Pu, told Nikkei Asia that Apple misjudged the demand for the iPhone 12 series.

“Consumers won’t have that very strong feeling about the differences between core processors and about 5G wireless communication performance immediately, but they can immediately see the difference in screen size,” Pu said. “If it’s around the same price, many consumers would rather just pick the older iPhone 11, which has a larger screen, as they don’t yet expect much from 5G.”

According to TechCrunch, Apple has started assembling iPhone 12 in India. India is the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

“Apple is dedicated to making the best products and services in the world to delight our customers. We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers,” an Apple spokesperson in India said in a statement.
