Seattle police cracked a 23-year-old cold case surrounding a newborn baby found dead in a trash can at a Seattle gas station in 1997.
According to CNN, the decades-long mystery was solved after authorities used DNA to confirm Christine Marie Warren, 50, was the mother of the baby.
Warren was arrested on Thursday after police used information from a public genealogy website that linked her to the child’s DNA, the Seattle Police Department reported.
She was arrested on suspicion of homicide and is being held in jail on a $10,000 bail.
King County prosecutors believe she is the mother of the baby.
She made her first court appearance on Friday, and a judge found probable cause of second-degree murder and anticipates a formal charge to be filed on Monday.
Court documents say that Warren told detectives that she gave birth in the gas station bathroom in 1997 and left the child in the trash can.
