The second woman seen assaulting an Uber driver in a now-viral video has surrendered to police on a slew of charges.
Arna Kimiai turned herself into the San Francisco Police Department on Sunday and was booked that night on charges of assault and battery, robbery, conspiracy, and violation of the health and safety code.
The shocking ordeal took place on March 7th when 24-year-old Kimiai, her friend Malaysia King and one other woman, got inside an Uber driven by Subhakar Khadka. In the video, Kimiai is seen reaching from the backseat and snatching the driver’s phone. She and King berate and hit the man, and at one point, Kimiai coughed on him. Khadka alleges that he was also pepper-sprayed as the women were exiting his vehicle. He believes that the women targeted him because he is of South Asian origin.
King, also 24, was arrested last Thursday in Las Vegas on similar charges. She remains in custody. Kimiai was released after posting a $75,000 bond.
The head of the San Francisco Police Department’s robbery detail, Lt. Tracy McCray, slammed the women for their dangerous behavior captured in the clip.
“The behavior captured on video in this incident showed a callous disregard for the safety and well-being of an essential service worker in the midst of a deadly pandemic.”
