New Yorkers are perfectly split between whether or not Gov. Andrew Cuomo should immediately resign following the slew of sexual misconduct allegations made against him.

On Monday, a poll that Siena College released found that 50 percent of New York voters said he should not step down. According to CNN, a minority of voters made up 35 percent, who said he should immediately step down, and 15 percent said they were unsure.

New York Congressional Democrats Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand have called for Cuomo to step down. Fifty other Democratic New York State legislators have also called for Cuomo to leave his position. The poll shows that 61 percent of Democratic voters say they do not think Cuomo should immediately step down, while 25 percent say he should. Sixty-four percent of Republicans want him to step down, 46 percent of independents don’t think he should immediately step down, and 32 percent of independents say he should.

Since the allegations surfaced, Cuomo has released an apology for his behavior, CNN reports. But he said he will not be departing just yet. An investigation is about to be launched into the accusations; this could leave Cuomo up for the possibility of impeachment.

“I want New Yorkers to hear from me directly on this. First, I fully support a woman’s right to come forward. And I think it should be encouraged in every way,” Cuomo said in a statement earlier this month. “I now understand that I acted in a way that made people feel uncomfortable. It was unintentional, and I truly and deeply apologize for it. I feel awful about it, and frankly, I am embarrassed by it, and that’s not easy to say, but that’s the truth.”
