The 63rd Grammy Awards reached a record low on Sunday by only pulling in less than half of last year’s viewers. The awards show saw just 8.8 million viewers on Sunday.
Pandemic-era award shows have seen a sharp drop in viewership, USA Today reports. The three-hour and 43 minute Grammys were down 53% from last year’s pre-pandemic telecast, which came in at 18.7 million viewers. The new figures factor in streams from CBS.com and the new streaming platform Paramount+.
September’s Emmy Awards only saw 6.1 million tune in, and February’s Golden Globe ceremony came in slightly higher at 6.9 million. With over eight million tuning into the Grammys last night, CBS bragged it had the “largest audience for an awards show this season.”
At its peak, the Grammys pulled in 39.9 million viewers back in 2012.
