Play Your Position So He Can Play His Game – blogged by @queenyvonna

With several major professional sporting events approaching, athletics are dominating the news and other realms of media.  Lately, most of the nation’s highlighted stories revolve around professional athletes and/or the teams they play for.  Does Aaron Hernandez, Josh Gordon, or the “deflate-gate” controversy sound familiar?  Hmmm…exactly! With such a significant amount of (media) attention being dedicated to Ballers, specifically during this time of the year, it’s imperative that they maintain a positive image, ESPECIALLY those who are deemed to compete within the upcoming weeks.  Why?  Well, let’s just say that the Super Bowl and NBA All-Star game are…MONUMENTAL!  There are PLENTY of Ballers who retire from the NFL or NBA who can’t say that they ever had the opportunity to win a Super Bowl ring or that they teamed up with the best in the league to play against their directional counterparts.  Both games can serve as the pinnacle highlight of an athlete’s career or the start of their downfall.  The severity of the games simply adds to the awful amount of pressure that these athletes are already experiencing from coaches, teammates, fans, endorsers, and more.  With that said, it’s only logical to avoid acquiring negative publicity, AT LEAST until the game has concluded, so that the rest of the world can’t blame a poor performance or loss on “off the field” distractions or predicaments.

Ladies, when dealing with a Baller, you have to understand that adverse media attention doesn’t have to be a direct result of your Baller’s actions.  It can be indirect as well, meaning that in addition to his close family, friends, or entourage, YOU have to make sure that you’re not acting ruthlessly or foolishly because it will be made public without any hesitation.  First and foremost, carry yourself in a classy manner at all times.  You can go the next several weeks without any public altercations with fans, groupies, or nemesis.  I promise!  Post appropriately.  For example, think about what you want to post on social media whether picture, video, or quote, BEFORE you actually upload it.  Always remember that there’s no need whatsoever to resort to social media to air your personal problems.  That should NEVER happen…AT ALL!  Earlier this week we reported how Miko Grimes, the wife of Dolphins’ cornerback, Brent Grimes, went on an epic rant against the NFL on Twitter.  Brent definitely played well during the Pro Bowl, but now his performance has been overshadowed as a result of his wife’s failure to control her emotions or to address her concerns in the appropriate manner.  Did I forget to mention that we’re talking about tirades against her husband’s EMPLOYER!?!  Hmm…definitely not smart at all.  Granted, this took place after his game, but just imagine if something similar had occurred prior to it.  Brent could’ve easily lost focus and played poorly as a result, adding to the mass of unwanted publicity already acquired.

Play your role ladies, so your Baller can sufficiently play his game!  Now is not the time for you to act on your inner “ratchetness” or immaturity to the extent that Charlamagne tha God awards you Donkey of the Day.  Your role at this time is to provide emotional and physical support.  You should be demonstrating how proud you are of him for even making it to “the Big Game.” He’s only dreamed about it since he was a small child!  You should serve as a source of motivation, encouragement, and stability.   It’s your duty to ensure that your Baller is stress-free up until he walks onto the field or the court.  There’s too much at stake to risk jeopardizing it all because you didn’t play your position.
