Derek Chauvin Files To Appeal Conviction In Murder Of George Floyd

Earlier today, a Minneapolis judge rejected defense motions to postpone and relocate Derek Chauvin’s murder trial in George Floyd’s death.

According to CNN, Judge Peter Cahill‘s decision came one week after the city agreed to pay George Floyd’s estate $27 million.

Chauvin’s attorneys argued the announcement of this payout prejudiced their client in the middle of jury selection. The judge also ruled that he would allow a limited amount of evidence from a 2019 encounter Floyd had with cops to be presented in this case.

The controversial case moved closer to trial when a woman was selected to be the 13th juror after the judge handed down his rulings on the motions.

The defense requests for a trial delay and change of venue came out on Monday, which was the start of the second week of jury selection in the trial of the former Minneapolis Police officer accused of killing George Floyd on May 25 of last year.
