Former Green Bay Packers quarterback and three-time NFL MVP Brett Favre has revealed that his past addiction to painkillers drove him to consider suicide.

According to the Daily Mail, the 51-year-old opened up about his addiction issues on his “Bolling With Favre” podcast on PodcastOne, revealing his addiction to painkillers in the 1990s almost killed him.

Favre described that even though he was experiencing a career-high after winning the Super Bowl in the 96-97 season, he “was as low as I possibly could be.”

Favre explained that his addiction started in 1994 after an ankle injury that he took 2 pills a day to treat. But eventually, his addiction ballooned to the point that he was taking a month’s worth of pills in a two-day span.

Favre ended up suffering two seizures in 95 and decided to admit his addiction and checked into rehab.

“I said it’s one of two things — I die, or I flush these pills down the toilet,” Favre said on his podcast.
