Real Water Recalls Products Over Liver Damage Lawsuits

Real Water has voluntarily recalled its water after local and federal health officials warned of a possible liver disease link.

The recall comes just a week after officials issued the warning. Real Water recalled all sizes of their H2O due to a “possible health risk,” according to a notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration website. The statement said that people should not sell, serve or cook with Real Water. The bottled water is sold on the company’s website, Amazon, and several other stores.

The health risks are linked to several people who experienced severe liver issues, including a Nevada man who had to have a liver transplant in September 2019. In a class-action lawsuit against the company, he says that Real Water’s dangerous components contributed to his health issues.

“Defendants … sold their product as’ the healthiest drinking water today,'” said attorneys Gustavo Ponce and Mona Amini. “In reality, it has dangerous levels of toxins in it, making it unsafe and dangerous to human life.”

CEO of Real Water, Brent Jones, said in a video posted to the company website that he offers his “deepest sympathy and concern over the events that led to the inquiry.” He says that the voluntary recall will remain in place until the “safety of our product is clearly established.”

The attorney representing the company in the FDA investigation says that Real Water is cooperating with the inquiry but declined to speak on the lawsuits, including claims of liver damage in over a dozen adults and even several children.
