According to a Variety exclusive, Will Packer will serve as the jury president for the 2021 American Black Film Festival. As jury president, the film and television producer aims to help the festival by expanding its jury and curating “a diverse slate of film and television content.”
The long-time supporter has previously served on the festival’s advisory board. Packer has premiered “Girls Trip,” “Think Like A Man Too,” “This Christmas,” “Takers,” and “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” during previous festivals. Packer was the recipient of the Distinguished ABFF Alumni Award at ABFF Honors in 2016.
“ABFF is one of the single most instrumental institutions in my career. This is more than just a festival for me,” Packer told the outlet in a statement. “Its very existence guarantees there will be more Will Packers making movies from a unique perspective and telling the stories of underserved audiences.”
The festival is now accepting submissions for the following competitive and non-competitive sections: HBO Short Film Competition, Narrative Features (US and International), Documentary Features (US and International), Web Series, World Showcase, and ABFF Pride.
