An Italian mafia fugitive blew his cover after police found him making cooking videos on YouTube.
Marc Feren Claude Biart’s “love for Italian cuisine” cost him getting arrested after being on the run for seven years. According to NBC News, police arrested a mafia fugitive in the Dominican Republic, and while there, he started a YouTube cooking channel with his wife.
But, police started to catch on to who he was after spotting his distinctive body tattoos. Police believe Biart is a member of a well-known mafia organization called ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate. NBC reports police have wanted Biart for allegedly trafficking cocaine from the Netherlands since 2014.
For the most, Biart had been laying low during his time spent in the Caribbean. The 53-year-old lived in the Dominican Republic for five years, and the only time he was recognizable was in the YouTube videos.
Lt. Col. Massimiliano Galasso, a Reggio-Calabria police official, told NBC News that they never stopped looking for Biart and relied on open-source intelligence to find him. The outlet reports that the mafia group is facing one of Italy’s largest mob trials in the last three decades.
