An Arkansas police officer has been working in law enforcement for more than 56 years and only plans to retire “when the good lord says so.”
L.C. “Buckshot” Smith, 91, is a well-known, beloved member of the Camden, Arkansas, force, according to CNN. He was attracted to the excitement of the job and joined the department in the 1960s. Since then, he’s been described as instrumental to annual festivals in Camden, been a court bailiff, and conducted the neighborhood watch. He’s also known for sending himself on calls when he hears them come through on his radio.
“Buckshot” Smith’s many years on the force and his knowledge of the town come in handy,” training coordinator Texann Shadden said.
Shadden describes Smith as dedicated, detailing a time when the snowfall was so bad that the officer had to walk the three blocks to work when he was unable to get his car out of the driveway.
On the three days of the week that Smith isn’t working law enforcement, he enjoys going to “church services and spending time with his lady friend,” according to the outlet.
