Dipset’s Cam’ron recently appeared on an episode of Noreaga and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs podcast, where he detailed an encounter the crew had with actor Laurence Fishburne.
The exchange happened years ago when a young Dipset ran into the actor at JFK airport in New York. According to the rapper, Jim Jones, himself, and a couple of their friends were excited to run into Fishburne. Jim Jones told them that if you call Fishburne Larry, he loses his mind. Naturally, one of Cam’s friends, Fat Shawn, yelled out, “Yo Larry!”
“What’d you call me?” Fishburne asked. “I called you Larry ’cause that’s your name,” Shawn continued. Fishburne let him know he doesn’t go by that and said, “My name is Laurence.” The back and forth continued, and eventually, telling Shawn to eff off, and Fishburne walked away.
Fishburne came back to sit in the area the guys were in, and Jim Jones, who had been on New York Undercover, wanted to get some acting tips from Fishburne. But Shawn kept calling him Larry, so he refused.
Eventually, Cam got mad himself and threatened Fishburne. That’s when the actor backed up and put gloves on, ready to fight. Cam and company were ready to jump the actor, but instead, Fishburne walked off.
That’s when Shawn revealed his goal had been to provoke Fishburne into hitting so he could sue and get paid.
The story has a happy ending, when years later, Cam’ron revealed that a friend of his was riding his pink Range Rover through Harlem. The friend saw Fishburne, and he asked if the car was Cam’s and told the friend to tell Cam that he’s a big fan.
