A Kanye West Documentary Is Coming to Netflix; Will Feature Never-Before-Seen Footage Covering Two Decades Of His Life

Netflix has acquired a documentary series about Kanye West that will span two decades of his life, including the death of his mother, Donda, in 2007 and his failed presidential bid in 2020.

West’s home videos and footage were taken over a 21-year period by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, who directed West’s music videos Jesus Walks (Version 3) and Through the Wire, will be included in the untitled film.

According to Billboard, the series will be released this year. Variety confirmed that a reported price tag of $30 million was incorrect, according to a source.

It’s unclear if the documentary would provide information about West’s pending divorce from Kim Kardashian West.

West, who first rose to prominence as a producer with his work on Jay-Z’s 2001 album The Blueprint, has had an eventful last two decades.

West has been involved in controversy throughout his career, from accusing former US President George W. Bush of failing to think of Black people during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, sparking a decade-long feud between the two artists.

West started as a Trump supporter in 2016, but in 2020, he said he was “taking off the red hat.” He said in 2018 that slavery was an “option.” His 2020 presidential campaign is said to have broken fundraising laws.

In 2014, he married Kardashian. They are the parents of four children. Kardashian requested more sympathy for West, claiming that his bipolar disorder caused his erratic public behavior.

Following Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Tina Turner, Shawn Mendes, and Blackpink, West is the newest singer to enter a wave of pop star documentaries.
