This season has proved to be real expensive for Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. He made about $8 million this year from his contract but has lost over $130,000 in fines. (That could’ve been a brand new car, I’m just sayin’.) In November, he was fined $100,000 for not fulfilling his obligations to speak to the media. Just last month, he was fined $11,500 for grabbing his crotch after a beastly 79 yard touchdown during the Seahawks-Cardinals game. Now he is getting fined once again, this time for $20,000, for displaying an ‘obscene gesture’ (a.k.a. grabbing his crotch) after scoring a touchdown during the NFC Championship.Â
With the Seahawks going to the Super Bowl, there’s going to be a lot of media present who is dying to talk to Marshawn. He is required to speak to the media on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of Super Bowl week. If he doesn’t comply, he could face another fine of at least $50,000. And who knows…if Marshawn scores a touchdown during the big game, he might just be inclined to reach for his d*** again.Â
Now granted, we all know the NFL is a stickler with all their rules and is commonly nicknamed the “No Fun League”. But at the same time, Marshawn could easily avoid these fines by just saying a few words to the media and maybe finding a different touchdown celebration. So do y’all think Marshawn Lynch needs to get his act together or does the NFL just need to relax a little and focus on more important things? Victor Cruz had the salsa, Gronk likes to spike the ball, Cam Newton does the Superman…maybe the NFL should just let Marshawn have his crotch grab touchdown celebration and call it a day.
