Kenosha Officer That Shot Jacob Blake Will Not Be Charged Or Disciplined

The Wisconsin police officer investigated for shooting Jacob Blake in the back and paralyzing him, will not be charged or disciplined and has returned to work.

Insider reports that the City of Kenosha Police Department announced on Tuesday that Rusten Sheskey returned to work at the end of March. According to the statement, he was “found to have been acting within policy and will not be subjected to discipline.”

“Officer Sheskey was not charged with any wrongdoing,” the department said in a statement. “He acted within the law and was consistent with training.”

“Although this incident has been reviewed at multiple levels, I know that some will not be pleased with the outcome; however, given the facts, the only lawful and appropriate decision was made,” the statement continued.

In August of 2020, officers responded to a call for a domestic incident. The camera footage added to social media showed Blake walking away from officers and opening the door to his vehicles when he was shot in the back. Blake was shot seven times.

Blake’s shooting occurred only a couple of months after George Floyd’s death while in Minneapolis police custody. Blake’s shooting set off another wave of protests over police brutality and racism in Kenosha.

No officer was charged with any criminal offense in connection to Blake’s shooting.
