U.S. Army Sergeant Jonathan Pentland has been arrested and charged with third-degree assault after a video surfaced of him threatening and assaulting a young black man, who he believed didn’t belong in their South Carolina neighborhood.
In the viral clip, Pentland can be heard repeatedly berating and shoving the young man, identified as Deandre, saying “I’m about to do something to you. You better start walking right now.” He even says, “you’re in the wrong neighborhood motherf*cker.”
After the video surfaced, the Fort Jackson Commanding General tweeted that they’ll be getting to the bottom of this incident ASAP, after a Twitter user brought it to his attention.
Pentland was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia, SC. See the clip that lead up to his arrest below:
