A North Carolina man shot an intruder inside his home on Thursday, only to learn afterward that the person was his own grandson, according to Newsweek and WBTV.
Authorities say Jessie, 34, kicked in the door of his grandfather’s home around 8 am, reportedly assaulted him and demanded money. The grandfather defended himself with a gun and shot the intruder. At the time, he did not know who it was. Family members told WBTV the grandfather learned the identity of the suspect after he was treated for his injuries.
Reports say Jessie ran from the home on foot. Authorities found him at a nearby motel where he had been staying. His girlfriend reportedly called 911. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.
The grandfather suffered facial and bodily injuries and was able to leave the hospital that afternoon. Details of Jessie’s condition were still being reported, and any charges had not been confirmed at the time of this report.
