TLC Hits Up Kickstarter To Fund Next Album

They took “independent” literally.. Grammy winning female group TLC, has taken to kickstarter to fund their upcoming album. T-Boz and Chilli recently launched a campaign on the crowd-funding site

“We’ve always been known to do things differently,” said T-Boz, “We’ve always been trailblazers and trendsetters. We’ve always been outspoken, and this seems like the perfect opportunity.”

The girls have already put pen to paper for their 5th album, and are hoping to raise at least $150,000 through the campaign for production, studio time, and promoting the album among other things.

“People may say, ‘Hey, you are celebrities. Why can’t you just pay for it yourself?’” Chilli said. “But it doesn’t work that way. There’s a lot that goes into it. We want to bring our fans into the process and see how it’s done.”

“We could knock out two birds with one stone,” Chilli said. “We can have the fans involved in our album. Then also, we can have control over everything. That’s a perfect combination.”

I’m really not sure what to think of this honestly.. on one hand it seems rather genius to take advantage of modern technology while being somewhat transparent in the music making process, on the other hand it screams stars of “yester-year” scraping up some coins for a struggle album.

What do you guys think? Does this feel genius or stimulus package?
