Police have arrested a 54-year-old man for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend at a Bob Evans restaurant where she worked.
According to the Daily Mail, Richard James Nelson was arrested and charged with aggravated murder after killing Rebecca Jean Rogers, 38, on Friday morning.
Rogers worked at the restaurant located in Canton. Authorities say the woman saw her ex enter the Bob Evans with a gun. She tried to run from him, but that is when he allegedly started firing his weapon. Rogers was shot multiple times.
Customers and other staff members hid under the tables, and some ran outside.
Following the tragic incident, the suspect led police on an 11-hour manhunt. He was considered armed and dangerous. He was finally apprehended around 8:30 PM that evening after a police dog pursued and stopped him in a foot chase.
Authorities are calling the murder a “domestic incident” and say the two had recently broken up. Before the shooting, Rogers contacted police over Nelson’s past behavior. One call was in regards to Nelson entering her home in March 2017. He was charged with stalking by menacing and burglary.
However, Rogers was found guilty for making a false police report in that case.
