George Floyd‘s brother says Joe Biden called him to let him know he is praying for them.

We’re at a standstill as the country awaits the results of the jury’s deliberation regarding Derek Chauvin, the former Minnesota police officer who murdered Black man George Floyd. In the meantime, Floyd’s younger brother says the 46th president of the United States of America phoned him on Monday with some encouraging words.

“He was just calling,” Philonise Floyd said on NBC’s Today Show. “He knows how it is to lose a family member, and he knows the process of what we’re going through. So he was just letting us know that he was praying for us, hoping that everything will come out to be OK.”

On Monday, the court ended with closing remarks, and Philonise said he feels “optimistic.”

“Me and my family, we pray about it every day,” Philonise said. I just feel that in America, if a Black man can’t get justice for this, what can a Black man get justice for?” He added that the case was a “pivotal point,” according to NBC News. The courthouse has been guarded in anticipation of an outcry following a not guilty verdict. Whether the result is good or bad, Philonise says he just wants people to be “peaceful.”

“But at the same time, I can’t stop people from doing the things that they’re doing because people are in pain,” said Philonise. “They’re hurt.” Just 10 miles away from the courtroom where Chauvin is being tried, Daunte Wright was killed by officer Kimberly Ann Potter.
