Actors, David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o are currently in negotiations to star in Disney’s upcoming film, “Queen of Katwe”.
The film focuses on a young girl from the slums of Uganda who, with the help of her coach, becomes a chess prodigy. The story is based on an ESPN Magazine article and the 2012 book The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster by Tim Crothers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The “Selma” actor, is being considered to play the coach, Robert Katende, while the Oscar-winner is being sought out for the role of Harriet Mutesi, the child’s mother. The movie will be directed by Mira Nair and is set to begin shooting in the spring.
Both Golden-Globe nominees would be a great fit for “Queen of Katwe” but we’ll have to wait and find out how the casting plays out.
