A new documentary examines the case of a woman who killed her ex-husband and blamed the murder on their German Shepherd.
“48 Hours: The Killing of Cowboy Ray Green” will cover the case of Ray and Dani Green. The woman told her ex-husband’s mother that their dog, Jazzy, had killed him.
“She said the dog killed my son yesterday. A German Shepherd dog,” Betty Green recounted the phone call she received two days after Memorial Day in 2014.
Dani told Ray’s mother that Jazzy got a hold of him, biting his throat. However, Betty was not buying the story. She requested a wellness check be conducted. Once authorities arrived at the Dillsboro, Indiana home, they could not locate Ray nor Jazzy. When questioned by police, Dani gave a different story, telling investigators that Ray was not dead. Instead, she claimed that he was away working as a truck driver. However, law enforcement debunked this theory when Ray’s truck was discovered on the property.
As suspicions grew, Dani told police that they could search anywhere on the property except for a large metal toolbox with a padlock on it.
Cops gained access to the box, where they found 62-year-old Ray Green dead. He was shot ten times. Dani was arrested and subsequently charged with the murder of the man whom she still lived with despite their divorce.
During the trial, she claimed to have shot Ray because he threatened to kill her. The jury did not believe her story, and she received a 60-year sentence in 2015. Jazzy has never been found.
The documentary will feature testimonials from family and friends of the former couple that participated in Cowboy Action Shooting. They will provide insight into what led to the gruesome murder.
“48 Hours: The Killing of Cowboy Ray Green” will premiere on CBS Saturday at 10 p.m.
