The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that fully vaccinated citizens may move about freely outdoors without masks.
The new guidance unveiled on Tuesday says that those who have received the full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine may walk, jog, bike, or dine at outdoor restaurants without wearing their masks. President Joe Biden says the relaxed restrictions are another reason why people should strongly consider receiving the vaccine.
Hesitancy among people of color, rural residents, and Republicans persists, which has been a challenge for federal health officials. Also, the lack of resources in communities of color has hindered vaccination efforts. Despite these roadblocks, over 52 percent of eligible Americans have received at least the first dose of the vaccine.
The updated guidance arrives ahead of Biden’s July 4th target for when citizens could come together for an outdoor picnic without needing a mask.
Officials are still urging unvaccinated and vaccinated residents to be cautious and consider masks when visiting larger indoor and outdoor crowds, especially sporting events and concerts.
