Travis Scott has just won an award for his philanthropic efforts to help HBCUs.
The rapper famous for his hip-hop hits, like “Sicko Mode” and “Highest in the Room,” is now being honored for his charitable work.
Last October, Scott tweeted that he’d pay a semester’s tuition for five students at historically Black colleges and universities, and a month later he launched his own charity, the Cactus Jack Foundation.
In February, Scott’s foundation also partnered with his hometown of Houston, Texas to help distribute 50,000 free meals to residents during the Texas freeze.
Now his efforts have earned him a special honor, he’s one of five recipients announced last week for the first-ever RAD (Red Carpet Advocacy.)
The Red Carpet Advocacy impact awards were created to honor cultural figures who “inspire purpose” in their work. Scott is being honored along with fellow recipients Charlize Theron, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Laverne Cox and Margot Robbie.
RAD is an agency that creates advocacy campaigns for charities. They have partnered with Luxury Stores at Amazon and have also created an online shop, the RAD Impact Edit, to benefit the charities chosen by the five honorees.
Starting Friday, April 30th, RAD says all of Amazon’s sales proceeds from the shop will be donated to those chosen charities.
Travis’s foundation, which will receive contributions from Amazon, intends to give several more scholarships to HBCU students by using that funding.
