An Ohio teacher and coach has been arrested after it was found that she allegedly sexually abused a 15-year-old student she drove home from a track meet.
According to People and local TV news station WTOV-TV, 21-year-old Corissa McCalister was a Spanish teacher at Central Catholic High School in Steubenville, Ohio. In addition, McCalister would coach cross country and track. People reports it was her first year teaching.
The incident involving the child reportedly happened on March 30. McCalister was driving the student home after a track meet, and before going home, she pulled over and parked at the Harrison County Fairground in Cadiz, Ohio. There she and the student reportedly had illegal sexual intercourse in her car.
According to documents, the student’s mother found out about the incident and reported McCalister to the school. The principal then told others employees at the school, the Catholic diocese, and authorities. According to People, McCalister was immediately placed on administrative leave from the school.
“I am deeply saddened by news of the allegations,” Steubenville Bishop Jeffrey M. Monforton of the area diocese said in a press release. “I offer my prayers for healing for the victim and the victim’s family as well as the Catholic Central school community.”
McCalister is now being held on a $100,000 bond. There are no details on if an attorney has signed on to the case for the former teacher. She also has not submitted a plea, People reports.
