A mother of two from Long Beach has died after getting plastic surgery in Tijuana.
Keuana Weaver and her friend went to Mexico to get tummy tucks and some other cosmetic surgeries. The mother was told the procedure would only take four hours. After confirming the details of the procedure, Weaver and her friend went to Tijuana to the Art Siluette Aesthetic Surgery clinic.
After the surgery, Weaver’s friend ended up in the hospital for two weeks, and Weaver died on the operating table. According to San Diego Union-Tribune, a third woman also got sick that day after getting plastic surgery at the clinic. She is now suffering from kidney failure.
Dalelisha Smith, Weaver’s soon-to-be sister-in-law, was with Weaver the day she had the procedure and said she wants people to watch out for the surgeons because he is allegedly not a licensed plastic surgeon. “I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it,” said Smith.
The surgeon’s name is Dr. Jesus Manuel Baez Lopez, and as of Wednesday, the clinic’s website has been shut down. The clinic’s Instagram page is reportedly still active. ABC’s Eyewitness News tried to reach Lopex, but his voicemail was full, and he didn’t respond to an email. Weaver’s mother, Yolanda, says her daughter’s death has “destroyed” their family.
“They just discarded my daughter like she was a piece of trash. No one still has called me to say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry.’ No one has contacted me,” Weaver said, noting that the clinic never pronounced Weaver as dead never reported her death to the U.S. Embassy. The mother says she is pushing out the message about it being unsafe to go after discounted plastic surgeries outside of the U.S.
“Don’t do it because it’s not worth it,” Weaver said. “All I can say is, I’m going to keep fighting. I have to be her voice and I want her voice heard,” Yolanda said.
