Newsmax, the far-right news channel, has issued an apology to a Dominion Voting System employee they falsely accused of helping to rig the November election.
Newsmax apologized to DVS’ director of product strategy and security, Eric Coomer, for their claims that he rigged the company’s voting machines to help bolster Joe Biden’s win.
“Newsmax has found no evidence that Dr. Coomer interfered with Dominion voting machines or voting software in any way, nor that Dr. Coomer ever claimed to have done so,” they said in a released statement. “Nor has Newsmax found any evidence that Dr. Coomer ever participated in any conversation with members of ‘Antifa,’ nor that he was directly involved with any partisan political organization.”
The apology has come months after Coomer filed a defamation lawsuit against the far-right news channel, which was one of several right-wing outlets that spread lies about the election, often centering on Dominion Voting Systems.
Coomer was so negatively affected by the false claims, he said he had to go into hiding after receiving death threats from Trump supporters.
“On behalf of Newsmax, we would like to apologize for any harm that our reporting of the allegations against Dr. Coomer may have caused to Dr. Coomer and his family,” their statement continued.
