A viral Tiktok about “culture shocks” set Twitter ablaze this morning. In the circulating clip, the TikToker goes into detail about different culture shocks she experienced after moving from the U.S. to Australia. One of these ‘shocks’ was that people outside of America were accustomed to instantly transferring funds bank-to-bank, without the use of third-party apps like Venmo, CashApp or Zelle.
Many Twitter users outside of the U.S. chimed in with confusion and a few jokes questioning America’s banking systems. Americans defended themselves by sharing that many banks offer Zelle as a way to quickly send money directly from your bank account.

Zelle is NOT a third party app. It is a digital payments network owned by US banks. You can do bank transfers directly from you bank’s app thru Zelle with the receiver’s phone number or email.

Bank transfers only happen overnight or 3-days at weekends to actually clear. In the rest of the developed world, it's effectively instant
