A Connecticut teenager was arrested after calling his classmate a racial slur on Snapchat.
On May 7th, the unidentified student reportedly shared a photo of Fairfield Warde High School sophomore Jamar Medor with the caption reading “why is there a n****r in my homeroom” and “why is he not in chains.”
The teen who allegedly took the photo and posted it with the racist caption faces charges of second-degree breach of peace and ridicule on account of creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality, or race.
Medor’s mother, Judith, said that the following weekend her younger son received a racist video call from students at Fairfield Ludlowe High School after the photo of his brother began making its rounds.
“I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless. I have no idea what they’re being taught at home,” Judith Medor said.
Jamar Medor also says that the photo left him speechless, angry, and sad.
“I just don’t feel comfortable going to school or walking the halls, so I stayed home today actually,” Jamar stated to ABC 7.
A Care2 petition has begun to circulate online, calling for the expulsion of the student. It has garnered 31,403 signatures. In an update on the petition page, organizers stated that the school decided to expel the student.
