A judge ruled Monday that a second-degree manslaughter case against the former police officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright may proceed.
Kim Potter appeared virtually in a court hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to move the case forward against former Brooklyn Center Officer Kim Potter. The judge ruled the case may proceed. A possible date for trial was set for December 6.
Potter fatally shot 20-year-old Wright on April 11 during a traffic stop over expired tags. Police attempted to arrest Wright for an outstanding warrant. According to police body camera footage, Wright struggles with another officer when Potter threatens to tase him. Instead of tasing him, Potter fired a single shot from her handgun.
Potter is facing 10-years in prison if convicted of the second-degree manslaughter murder charge.
