The leader of a white supremacist gang in Arkansas has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
According to ABC News, Wesley Gullett, president of the New Aryan Empire, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering and conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute. His guilty plea was submitted in federal court back in February. In his plea, he admitted to solicitation to commit murder and attempted murder along with other violent crimes.
The New Aryan Empire came about from what was formerly a prison gang in the 1990s, prosecutors say. Over time, the gang started to participate in other crimes, including narcotics trafficking, witness intimidation, and violent acts. In 2017, original indictments returned, and 44 gang members were accused of drug and gun crimes. Later, in 2019, more members were accused of being a part of the criminal activity committed by the group, reports ABC News.
In 2019, Gullett and another prisoner escaped from a local Arkansas jail. However, police eventually caught and arrested them.
Three of the remaining white supremacists are expected to appear for their trial, scheduled for Sept. 7. There is one white supremacist that is still on the loose.
