The parents of a two-year-old boy who was shot inside his North Carolina home earlier this month are now in custody after being accused of staging the incident to look like a drive-by shooting.

The allegations against Lucentio Clark, 38, and Tianna Jumper, 20, who were arrested on Wednesday, were confirmed by online records obtained by PEOPLE.

Clark and Jumper have been charged with criminal child abuse and neglect, and obstruction of justice. Clark also faces a charge of possessing a handgun by a convicted criminal.

He is being held on a $150,000 bond while she remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.

According to Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office investigations, the incident occurred in Lawndale on May 9. Ryquez Clark suffered significant injuries and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The boy is still in the hospital, undergoing treatment for unidentified injuries.

Detectives dismissed the scenario after investigating the shooting and alleged that the whole scene was set up to hide what happened.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jumper allegedly contacted 911 and told dispatchers that an unknown man had fired shots into their home.

Jumper said that before the bullet struck the boy, it shattered the window. According to investigators, only two shots were fired that morning: one from inside the home and one from outside.

Authorities have yet to comment on who fired the shots or what prompted them. It’s also unclear what the motivation is.

Neither defendant had entered a plea to the charges as of yesterday.
